I’ve always heard that cats have multiple lives, but dogs? Meet one of my family’s many hounds… Wicket the Pekingnese. Wicket is a feisty fellow, deprived of his manhood but still energetic nonetheless. He has had a number of encounters with death in his life so far, but has somehow managed to evade it.

As a young puglet, Wicket was fiercely kicked in the head by the hind-hooves of a large horse he was chasing, knocked unconscious, and feared dead. Shortly after, however, it was apparent that he was still very much alive, which fascinated the veterinarian who saw him after the incident. Though apparently uninjured, perhaps his mind was jarred a tad bit which might explain his other perilous adventures!
A couple more years had gone by and little Wicket still had not had enough of chasing horses. But this time, he caught it. After much ado and pitiful yelps, it was discovered that Wicket had broken a leg. He then spent the next couple months hobbling around (with great speed, mind you) hilariously in a cast. Had this dear little Chinese Pekingnese pug learned his lesson yet? I don’t think so…
After years of experience now, Wickie desired a bigger challenge. Something with a little more roar and “oomph.” The victim? A FedEx truck. Many times chasing horses had given Wicket valuable experience in capturing his prey. Just like the last time he did catch it, but I think he would agree that he was bested by the package-bearing beast. Poor Wicket spent the next week or so under constant care of the vet, more or less in “ICU.” He had broken his pelvis and developed other nasty symptoms after having been thrown in the air by the wheel of the vehicle. Weeks after careful rehabilitation and under the care of his caring family, Wicket has since fully recovered (though his hind-quarters appear a little shrunk!) and still seeks out adventures to this day.
May his uncanny luck continue to the end of his days!

Wow. Its amazing he’s still alive.
Does he still try to chase thing many times his own size?
Thanks for visiting and posting!
Yeah I agree, he has had his fair share of fortune (especially when the vet bills are concerned).
Unfortunately yes he does not seem to have learned his lesson yet. The other day he bolted out the door as a FedEx truck was pulling down the driveway. Luckily the truck had a large head-start on him and no one was hurt!
Lucky or not, he isn’t the smartest pug on the block.
Sounds like A True Pekingese to me
Totally Fearlessv !
I had a Rattlesnake at my feet ready to strike my hand I was trying to turm off the garden hose and the snake didn’t start “Rattling” until After I had reached for the Hose, My Male Pekingese ran up to the snake and distracted him so I could get away, the snake went on his Merry way, but I jumped on the Tractor and chased him down and ran over him a few times lol.
The Peke Saved my Life
Totally Fearless !!!
Loved your Story !

Thanks for sharing your great story! Yours is certainly a brave Pekingnese (though hopefully your horses won’t become a temptation!), and I’ll always enjoy my Pekingneses’ personalities! We have two now… the one is fearless and the other is totally submissive, but both are great!
