It is my opinion that the late 1980s and early 1990s produced some of the best cartoon shows, ever. One of these productions is the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series that began around 1987 (not to be confused with later series). Good characters and dialogue, creative animation and story-lines with substance… these are some of the qualities missing from today’s kids TV shows that older shows seemed to have in abundance.
Thankfully many of these old gems are now available on DVD and online streaming video. I think it is a great idea for parents to buy or rent their favorite cartoons and other shows from their childhood to share with their own children. At least they would not have to screen the content as much for the “iffy” material so common today, assuming they are still familiar with the stories somewhat. The kids television shows of today (for the most part) seem to be mindless CG creations developed with the intent of melting kids’ brains and make an easy buck, yet with no creativity in the process.
In any case, I suggest you take a look at the best ninja turtle series, especially if you have kids. The adventures of Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and their ninja trainer, Splinter, are really fun to watch! I can still watch them without getting bored or anything, and I plan to share them with my own family in the future. The three live-action ninja turtle movies released in the 1990s are a great watch, too.

Nice post Palmer. I never thought of introducing my future children to them, but I like the idea.
Keep it up!
Thanks. I can easily see it being just an odd desire of mine! Seriously though, cartoons like David the Gnome, Transformers (original), tons! =)
Oooo I love David the Gnome! Nickelodeon used to have real substance to it, but now it’s just a bunch of fluff.
